Trendspotting- Chandelier Earrings

While chandelier earrings never really went out of style, they have taken a backseat for the last few seasons until their bold re-emergence onto the runways and red carpets this season.  They emerge in many shapes and styles; from three inch multi strand designs to articulated diamond styles.

 

At the 2010 Oscars this year, celebs embraced the chandelier style. Carey Mulligan wore mile-long articulated diamond chandeliers and Queen Latifah wore breathtaking South Sea Pearls set in dramatic pink sapphire and diamond drops. Kathy Ireland set off her dramatic South Sea Pearl and diamond necklace with long, pear shaped diamond drops.

Pearls grace the red carpet at the Oscars!

Pearls were seen in a surprising abundance on the red carpet at the Academy Awards this year. Kathy Ireland paired a dazzling South Sea Necklace and matching bracelet with her sleek black gown.  Queen Latifah chose a magnificently big pair of jewel encrusted South Sea Pearl drop earrings. Demi Moore wore smaller akoya chandelier earrings and Cheryl Hines wore Akoya pearls, diamonds and gemstones on her by-the-yard style necklace.

Do you remember the feeling when you had spent all day building your Barbie Dream Sand Castle on the beach and you left with half of the beach's sand in folds and crevices of your body that you didn't even realize you had?  Well, apparently that is the look Singer & Entertainer Lady Gaga was going for at the AmfAR 2010 Gala in New York City, substituting sand with hundreds of cultured pearls glued to her skin and hair. Complimenting this look was a pearl bikini, cropped jacket and captain's hat.

Delfina Delettrez-Fendi combines "creepy" and cool" in her new line.

I have been wanting to write a short review of Delfina Delettrez after seeing the talent in her initial 2007 collection. She is the daughter of French jewelry designer Bernard Delettrez and celebrated Fendi accessory designer, Silvia.

The 22 year old Fendi heiress has certainly made an impact with her splendidly vulgar baubles. Her latest collection, Anatomik, is inspired by Di Chirico and the human body.  Her fascination with body parts and fantasy translates into over the top, macabre jewels. She incorporates common and peculiar elements such as Cultured Pearls, Marble, Copper, Silver, Gold, Wood, Diamonds and Gemstones in her hand-crafted pieces. She relishes the idea of juxtaposing pricey diamonds with inexpensive components like wood or plastic.

  Delettrez  has a knack for seamlessly fusing 'creepy' and 'cute' to make jaunty eyeball necklaces and pave' gemstone metacarpal rings. Her intricate, evocative pieces actually startle you at first glance. As she puts it so eloquently; “I always try to make them realistic as a way to exorcise the fear.” Mission Accomplished!
