Diamond Shapes
- Cushion Cut: A square or rectangular cut with rounded corners and 58 brilliant style facets that resembles a pillow shape. Older antique cushions return light in blocky patterns while newer cuts return light in needle-like patterns.
- Half-Moon : Shape is straight on one side and curved on the other. This shape is often used as a side stone.
- Christmas Tree: Cut was developed b George Saltz man and only cut in limited quantities in Israel and Belgium.
- “Flower Cuts”: A suite of stones created by Gabi Tolkowsky in 1986 for DeBeers. The suite includes five flower cuts using unconventional cutting angles and dimensions, Dahlia, Fire-Rose, Marigold, Sunflower and Zinnia.
- Dahlia: An unconventional 12-sided oval shape with 63 facets. Part of DeBeers “Flower cuts” suite.
- Fire-Rose: A hexagonal shape with 61 facets.
- Marigold: An octagonal shape with a large table and shallow pavilion. It has 73 facets.
- Sunflower: Designed to yield maximum brilliance, it has 43 facets of angular shapes.
- Zinnia : A round fancy shape with 65 facets (40 clustered on the cutlet).
- Lily Cut: A square shaped diamond that has been rounded into four flower petals to yield a cross shape. It has 65 facts. Introduced in 1996.
- Noble Cut: By designer Doron Isaak. A 29 facet kite shape with an emphasis on symmetry and line perspective. Unveiled in 2001.
- Marquise Brilliant Cut: It takes it’s name from a legend that the sun king desired a stone shaped like the mouth of the marquise of Pompadour. It typically has 56 facets.
- Radiant Cut: Patented in 1977 by Henry Grossbard. It was the first diamond to combine the emerald cut and round brilliant cut.
- Oval: It was invented by Lazare Kaplan in the early 1960’s. It typically has 56 facets.
- Quadrillion: An ideal square-shaped diamond with 49 facets and sharp corners. Developed in the 1970’s.
- Rising Star: Unveiled in 1992, it was developed in Liechtenstein. It is a full depth stone with 56 facets. About 75-80 percent of rough is lost to produce this cut.
- Royal Fancy Cut Suites: Developed in the early 1990’s, this suite of Royal Cuts include the Baroness, the Duchess and the Empress.
- Baroness Cut:Similar to an oval shape with 65 facets.
- Empress Cut: A seven-sided pear shape with 64 facets.
- Duchess cut: A 45 facet hexagonal marquise.
- Grace cut: A combination of a round and triangular shape, it has 65 facets. It was unveiled in 1992.
